Synergine was appointed as the Project Manager for one of the Ministry of Education’s most complex new school projects - Kauri Flats School in Takanini, South Auckland.
The project comprised the design and construction of several single-level buildings, with capacity to cater for a final roll of 700 students (in years 1 to 8).  The school incorporated a hall, a science block, an administration building, three independent classroom blocks and a satellite unit for the Northern Health School.

Synergine’s role on the project encompassed the day-to-day management of the design, approvals and construction phases, from the commencement of the project through to its completion and handover.  This included planning, investigation, scoping, procurement, contract administration and coordination of a range of specialist consultants required to develop an overall design that met the needs of the Ministry and the school, on an undeveloped site with significant technical challenges including a lack of supporting infrastructure, poor ground conditions and a high water-table.

The role also incorporated the procurement and management of the Contractor including: the competitive tendering of the contract and appointment of the Contractor under NZS 3915; the novation of the design consultants to the successful Contractor; and the administration of the contract and day-to -day management of the contract works.

Stakeholder management was another key aspect of the role, with the interests of the Ministry, the Board of Trustees and the Principal of the new school, Auckland Council, Auckland Transport and neighbouring developers requiring careful management throughout the project. Synergine successfully blended in-house, optimized project management processes with the requirements of the Ministry to effectively manage the delivery of the project, transforming the greenfield site into a fully functioning education facility which was formally opened by the Governor General.
